Hi everybody, have to machine a large buttress thread. i want to use the long hand cycle to reduce stress on insert tip the lead in angle how much must be? is it 45 or 22.5 degree? thanks in advance.
  2. just received some 4 axis splined parts to be cut on our AGIE wire machine. how it's possible to convert those splines to arcs - since toolpath must be in direct 4 axis format? thanks in advance. running x2 mr1.
  3. Bill, need help for programming a two axis vtl. meantime i must write programs for each head and trying to synchronise them on the machine - a long and time consuming process. also it will be a nice feature to program iscar's face grooving tools as they need special treatment. i saw this type of tools programmed in a solidcam programming enviroment. thanks.
  4. just try it like this: % N100 M63 N110 G01 X+676500 Y-200666 G40 N120 D01 S01 T01 Q+000000 G43 N130 G01 X+000000 Y+200666 G44 N140 G01 X-020000 Y+000000 G40 some editing by hand... it works fine for me.
  5. hi all, running mc9 mr0304 and windows2000. after completing the wirepath i want to change some points with the wirepath editor like inserting a stop point and so on. until upgrading to mr0304 never had problem with it. now mc crashes and i has to do all over again. any suggestions? by the way - i shall stick with MC9. after playing a while with "X" i leave it to others. thanks everybody.
  6. thanks again PhilCott making the thread is the last operation so all features are ready by then. it's also a buttress thread so it can't be done by thread milling. alas, thanks for all.
  7. thanks everybody for the quick feedbacks. to clarify myself it is a piece for lathe machining, and the lathe is a vtl standard with no rotating tools. dimensions are in metric system. to PhilCott: thanks, you understood my problem. i also thought to make it with trial and error method but wanted an alternative way to figure it out. anyway thanks again.
  8. hi all, although not exactly a mastercam related problem any help will be appreciated. need to make an inner thread with the following data: diameter of thread is 308.2 m"m. pitch is 8 m"m. length of thread is 158 m"m. rpm=60,start of material is z0. an absolute restriction is that start of thread at zero point must be at 7 degrees to the right of vertical (83 degrees from horizontal). anybody knows some method how to calculate the toolpath for this kind of work? thanks in advance.
  9. Thanks all you guys I surely learnt something from each of you. Special thanks to BRENT WILKERSON, you are a great source of information - i'll check all of them as soon as possible.
  10. Thanks for all your answers, but i want to clarify myself. Machine is an AGIECUT 350 HSS and it is two years old in perfect condition. Most of the time runs a specific job and occasionally other jobs that can't treated other way. Because of lack of experience, to make another job i must take machine manual recommendation. The problem is that never got the desired results. There is always some deviation from the requested dimensions. My last nightmare was as follows: One piece only. FINISHED PART=3500$. Material: SAE 4340, heat treated. Desired tolerance: 0.015 m"m Superior surface finish. According to machine manual: make three passes with offsets as follows: d1=0.308 d2=0.208 d3=0.168 Needless to say that part came out with a deviation of more than 0.35 m"m!! Boss after heart attack... Any thoughts what is wrong? part was programmed according to the drawing. TO BRENT WILKERSON: May i ask what is an ultrasonic cleaner, Xylomate,ro water? thanks for all.
  11. Thanks for all your answers. there is an ISCAR library in MC8. what i'm asking for from CNC guys is support for CUT-GRIP tools as SOLIDCAM does. And yes i'm not mixing anything up, i know exactly what i want. I saw SOLIDCAM toolpaths for this tools and they are perfect.
  12. Hi all, Recently we bought a new wire machine - what a curse! Inspite the fact that we have all the manuals of the machine never succeeded to make a piece right for the first time. As far as i know it is a process of trial and error to make it right. It makes the boss crazy... Does anybody knows another method of working with this type of machining? thanks for any suggestions.
  13. Hi all, Sorry that my english is not perfect. As a lathe programmer i'm widely use Iscar's CUT-GRIP tooling system. Almost every time i must correct the toolpath manually because mastercam has no support for this type of tools. May i ask from the guys at CNC to put into the next release of "X" some support for it? Thanks in advance.
  14. FROM G17 TO G18 Thanks all of you guys, but i want to clarify myself a little better. All parts are defined in top view and the output of the mpfan.pst outputs coordinates in x,y and the z axis is the depth this is the G17 plane. Now i must transform this existing toolpaths so the output will be as x,z and the y axis is the depth as in G18 plane. I'm trying to change the parameters in the mpfan.pst to do this without defining everything all over again. I'll appreciate any suggestions. thanks everybody.
  15. I HAVE A BUNCH OF PARTS THAT ARE DEFINED IN G17. HOW IT IS POSSIBLE TO CONVERT THE G17 TOOLPATHS INTO G18 WITHOUT DEFINING EVERYTHING ALL OVER AGAIN? MILL VERSION 8.1 THANKS IN ADVANCE.
