  1. Hello! I am new to 3D surface machining. The die designer give me a part file which is 3D surface and it has no thickness. When I program to machine a die surface block (bottom), I don't need to offset the surface. When I program to machine a punch surface block(top), I have to offset surface to the material thickness of the strip(let's say .05" thickness). I really don't like to offset the punch surface to .o5" thickness of the strip. Is there a way to avoid offset surface when i machine a punch suface block? Thanks a lot
  2. Hello! I have a problem with color change in a surface. I have a part file which is a surface. I like to have 2 colors on the surface. One color on top surface represents a punch surface and the other color on bottom surface represents a die surface. Can you please help me how to change 2 colors in a single surface, Top and Bottom surface? Thanks for help.

    3 Surface

Hi all, The designer is not in our company, he is a contract designer. If my boss tells the designer put 3D surface on will cost him(boss) a lot of money. My boss argued with me that the cnc guy before can create 3D surface, why can't i create it? For cadcam, is this possible to create 3D surface from 2D wire? For terry&terry, thanks for information on Sheridan college. I am going to look for a course on weekend if it is opened. Thanks for your reply

Can someone please help me out to put surface on this wireframe. By the way, can someone please suggest any book so that i can master in create 3D surface. Thanks a lot
  5. Hi all, I am new with 3D surface, I uploaded the file on cadcam's FTP, The file's name was 4518-058 in MC9 folder. The designers gave me three views, and told me to create a 3D surface and machined it. I have a problem in creating 3D surfaces. As you look in Top view, there are yellow lines represents a rib (form up) in the middle, and as you look in top side view, there is a profile of outer shape. Can you please help me out? Thanks a lot.
  6. Hi when I DXfin on Mastercam ( Dxfout from MDT4), I lost many entities. I don't know why? I also have another problem, let's say, I already program tool #3, but this tool at station 16 in tool magazine, so i just right click on tool #3 to get Define tool, and I change tool#, Station #, Holder #, all to 16, but i check in tool parameter, Len. offset is still 3, not 16. Can you please help me out? Thanks
  7. Hi, I have a simple solid square block, if you look in front view there is a slant or 45 degree slope surface, and there is a hole perpendicular to this surface. When I do surface toolpath, I just want to machine this 45 slope surface, but the tool also cut into the hole. How can I fix this problem? Thanks.
  8. Hello! I have a problem in backplot, I select all tools and backplot them in a single step mode, I always got an error message, said "Warning-memory allocation error for tool storage". How can I fix this problem? Thanks!

    3D Questions?

Hi, Thank for helping me, Now I know how to analyze small rad, extend, and rotate a surface. I have another question, Can I extend or trim a solid model? I am kind of stuck on trimming and extending a solid. Any help!
  10. Hello, I am new with 3D programing, I have a few questions to ask you. - How do you analyze a small Radius on a surface? - How do you project a surface or extend out a surface? - I have a surface and i like to rotate it up side down. How do i rotate it? - Since there are many cutting parameters on cutting a surface, like paralle, contour, pocket, flowline,etc.. which cutting parameter do you often use and why? Thank you all and have a great weekend.

    solids

Hi, The way I learn a solid model is by using a book, called "Mastercam Solids" written by Dr.S.C. Jonathon Lin, published by Scholars International Publishing Corp. Also from the "HELP" button on Mastercam Software. I think this would help you to learn a solid model.
  14. Hi I have a problem with solid tranlator. I draw a part in solid model by using Mechanical Desktop. After that, I export the part into Mastercam by using SAT file. I got the part in Mastercam, every thing looks fine. But I can't shade the part as a solid and I also can't machine or program the part in solid toolpath. I don't know what a probem is. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.
  15. Hi, Mastercam tutorial book is helful for a beginner only. One of books that I find helpful is Mastercam Version 7, written by Dr. S.C. Jonathon Lin and Dr.F.C. Tony Shiue, published by Scholars International. The other tutorial which installed directly in Mastercam software is to use "Help" function. Everytime when you get stuck on something on Mastercam, just click "Help" button. To get better your on using software is to practice. The more you practice, the better you are. Believe me, when you do program for a first time, it takes you so long, but when you practise to do it for second or third time (with same program), you will do faster and more efficient way. That's how I learn from Mastercam software. Good luck! DH
