i saw a demo of edgecam at westec.
it is pretty much like fbm. i think it is more developed than fbm but i really dont know that much about it. the fact that mcam is putting a lot of time and effort into fbm leads me to believe that this is the direction of cam. at least for the short term. i can imagine the power of mastercam toolpaths combined with fbm and with a little refinement. the possibilities could be powerful.

slow the rpm to 2000 and raise the feed to 20.
start the peck at .1 if it wraps around the drill then make it smaller.
the thicker chip should clear the hole better.

I think it from the point selection function.
it grabs endpoints and centers and such as you move the cursor. if you click when it on sketch i think that's when it makes the point.

I just saw mastercam run on brand new mac.
Wow! 1st impression is it is the fastest I have never seen it faster.
I loaded the v9 sample that looks like binoculars. I ran the verify. turbo,fast forward.
it verified in about 15 seconds.
most computers that i have used have never reached the end. I usually stop when I get tired of waiting.
definitly worth a look.

+ 1 on the cable.
I found the sketch for the cable on the fadal site. for the parameters I use 7,e,1 and 9600 boud rate. if you want to increase the speed above they recommend the cable be shorter. I think 10 - 15 feet. if you run at the max baud then shorter than 10 feet. I think this is more critical on the older machines. I still use 9600.
I would make sure to buy the shielded cable and the good metal connector covers. I have never had a problem with the cable.

the main difference I found is in format 1 the machine always goes to origin first. in format 2 you can do a g92 and start from the current position.

I believe it has the same format as the fanuc 3000 control.
if that is the case then most of the stuff is pretty regular. make sure you find the documentation on the cutter compensation. I seem to remember an issue when calling g41 and g42.
I never used it but the issue sticks in my brain for some reason.
anyway you cant ignore this because it wont work like the series 6 and after controls.

one of the fadals that i ran had a remote on it with a button the end for the tool unclamp.
call fadal and see if it is an option for your control.
I see them on ebay sometimes.

"I have used many mazaks and haas' over the years, and the only place where i think there might be a good case for a haas is in the larger machines, VF6 and up. They are still junk, but unbelievable value when you try to compare them against similiar sized new machines. Just my .02"
Hi some,
this is very interesting to me because I feel that the smaller machines hold the advantage when purchasing haas and fadal machines. Most of my experience is with fadal and i have always had an issue with the large machines wearing out too quick. one 80 x 30 fadal I ran went through all 3 motors and 2 ballscrews in the first year of service. it is way too easy to overload this size of table with a big steel casting or even an large aluminum billet. with such a small base the table starts sagging very quickly.
on the other hand the 20 x 15 machines are very accurate and seem to stay accurate much longer. what they lack in horsepower and bulk is partially offset by good accuracy and lower price.

the one thing that I think is better on haas than mazak is the resale on a 15 year old machine. for some reason you can buy an old mazak still running in ok shape for less than a wornout old haas. I think because the haas is cheaper and easier to rebuild.

In my opinion, the biggest problem with haas machines is they are not mori's.
the best thing is for the price and quality guys like me can have new cnc machines too.
I ran big cnc's in the 80's. they are beefy and have plenty of power.
around 1990 a freind of mine went out and bought a 60x20 ooya-1m. very good quality even used. he hocked his house and quit his job and started his shop. his payment was 3k per month.
2 years later he bought a 40x20 ooya-1m and that was $2400 a month. the payments almost broke him and he finally lost the 2nd machine.
the only good thing was he was able to pay off the 1st machine and stay in business for another 5 years only to sell out and move to apple valley.
for me the worst case seems to be that I will move out of my shop, hopefully share space with someone else and continue to pay $700 a month for my brand new mini mill.

the one from haas is $1500. I wish I would have ordered it on mine. I did get one recently and am going to install it soon. I recently used one at the day job and I love it. I turned off the 3 nozzles and use only the pcool.
can't wait to get mine working.

make sure setting 36 is set correctly for restarting the program

i think at that feed you are wrapping thin chips around your drill. keep increasing the feed until you get the chips to clear the drill and drop the peck to .03 the chips should fly away from the drill.

you can also type DNC as the first line in the program. then just make sure the machine is at enter next cammand prompt and send.
then press start
is this a bug?
