  1. How should I cut the six .750R arcs so that the post reads G2 instead of G3? I know that I can replace the G3 with G2 in my editor. Is there an easier way?
  2. Thad, Thanks now I understand. Is there a way to flip the Y only so I would be looking at it front not back?
  3. Mastercam X2 question. 3D Contour Toolpath My geometry is an arc .750R starting at the origin X0,Y0,Z0 and ending at X.750,Y0,Z-.750. In backplot the cutter moves in a CW direction top to bottom. When posting the G-code I get a G3 instead of G2 which I need. I tried using different posts and got the same results. Can someone tell me why this is happening?
  4. How do you create a core from a cavity using solids in Mastercam X2. Will boolean add material into the cavity and create the core? Ed G
  5. I have two options in SolidWorks when saving a model as a Step file. Step AP203 and Step AP214, which one is better to open in Mastercam X2.
  6. I will be cutting a 3D surface with a ball nose cutter. In the surface parameter page I can select tip comp center or tip. Is one more accurate over the other when following a surface?
  7. I believe Solidworks has a free viewer on their web site. You could try using it on your files before sending it out. Might work with Mastercam? I was able to open a Mastercam 2D .DWG file in solidworks 2006 looked ok. I also saved a solid as a .DWG file and then tried opening it in Solidworks did not look good. Try saving your solid as a parasolid.

    Contour

The geometry was originally chain together and I tried to break it at the end points. Somehow I screwed it up and never broke the chain, but was still locked in the command. I closed Mastercam and re-started, now it's ok. How do you break a join 2D chain into separate lines and arcs? Mastercam X

    Contour

I have a 2D chain made of lines and arcs. Some of the lines won't select when clicked on. Can't even delete them, it's like Mastercam is not seeing them. Using X
  10. Thanks again, I was able to delete the level. Next time around I will search the forum first. Ed G
  11. I will take a look, thanks.
  12. How do you delete a level in the level manager? I tried the delete key and nothing happens.
  13. Thanks,it worked great!
  14. I imported a 2D Autocad file into X. I then used extrude solid and now it's 3D. I am able to select the original profile as individual lines, but not the extruded part. If I save the file as a parasolid and open it, I can now select the extruded part as individual lines. Does X have an explode command I can use after extruding a solid?
  15. How do you explode an extruded solid in Mastercam X into individual lines and arcs? I need to select individual lines and arcs without everything being selected.
  16. Got it to work, thanks.
  17. How do you lenghten the end of an arc. I need the arc to touch a line. How do you extend or continue the arc to touch without cheating by using a short line ? I am using Mastercam X.

Edit copy/paste menu did not work?, but Xform copy did! Thank you.

    Dimensions

    Thanks,that worked.

    Dimensions

The current settings are in inch in Mastercam. Still no luck. The drawing was made in Japan. Not sure which Cad system they use. The believe the scale needs to be changed. Example: Mastercam sees a 270mm as 270 inch not 10.629 inch. How do I change scale for the whole drawing?
  22. I have a drawing that was done in metric from my customer. When I add dimensions in Mastercam X I keep getting metric. How do I change to inch dimensions? Ed G
  23. Not sure if it's necessary, but check your PC com port settings too. Go to my computer, view system information, device manager, port(com & LPT),communication port (com 1) and then check your settings. Good Luck!
  24. Mastercam version 8 mill. Scholars International Publishing Corp. In chapter 14 3D toolpaths there is another drawing that they considered a close boundary case. It's first and last contours are connected. The drawing I posted looks closed too, but they considered it open. Just wondered, it made no sense?
  25. I wasn't sure if there was any open boundarys. I am still learning. It didn't make any sense to me why its considered open. I will move along to the next chapter, thank you.
