CadCame translator is a good option if you don't do a lot of translation. I'm not sure but I thought I read it was expensive per translation. The pro-e translator is expensive at $1995 but we use it almost everyday and it works pretty well. The fact that you can import a true solid has made a big difference.I'm not sure if STEP handles solids but even step is a $1500 option... you need to weigh how much your going to use it. If your gonna be translating every day then you should invest in the translator...

I have the exact same problem.. I'm running a P-2 450 mhz with 256 meg ram and a revolution 9 video card.

Are you using it in a pocket or on the putside of a frame. I know in Ver 8 it appears that if it can't fit a lead it will not use it under certain circumstances.

The way I do keyway cutters is like this ..I do not use depth but I do use multi pass then I copy that operation and change the depth on the copy. If you try to use depth it will just divide up your passes equally and the 1st pass will be the first equal depth cut.hope this makes sense.

There is a freeware program called Wintopo that can convert to vector. You can find it at www.download.com the only thing is it will only convert from bmp ..if you want to do gif's jpg you need to buy the full ver. you can alway's get freeware to convert from gif to bmp. I was asked by the company recently to engrave a gif and it worked great.

I've been using ver 8 since it's release and I like it much better than Ver 7 ...I haven't encountered very many bugs and the associativity is worth it's weight in gold to me ..just my .02 cents

There is a update at the mastercam support page for that problem. Some of the early cd's had that problem.

Actually I believe they just recently released a Scholars International book for version 8. Ask your dealer to get it or you may be able to get it at barnes and noble online or something
