  1. I am having a very similar problem. Using Raster rest mill, complex surfaces as my drives, a STL as my stock, and 1 containment boudry set to inside. I have been using MC for many years and never had an issue with containment. It usually works great. But now, something has changed. Is this a bug. Seems pretty simple, when I say stay inside a boundry, MC should never cross that line. But it does. I just started using X6 MU1
  2. Yes, we have tested it out. It does some pretty neat stuff, but the Impeller we were doing it couldn't handle it. It was still violating check surfaces and weird stuff like that. We asked if we could get a demo of it, and we tried it out for a month or so, but never got it working well. I would say, if you are doing simple impellers it will work nicely. But anything complex, forget it. Hypermill is very good. Give them a call to and compare.
  3. So it sounds like that's just how it is huh? Well thanks for the help.
  4. Using X4 - MU1 I noticed that when I am doing a lathe program and I use turn profile - spin, I don't get any arc, just lines. This could cause some problems. Am I doing something wrong? And BTW, I know I can make the lines smaller, but I would really rather have arcs. But I what the functionality of the spin feature, not the slice. Thanks
  5. Mastermatt, I think if I just use X-form it would only allow me to move in X and Y, not really adjust to a particular side of a contour. But thanks for the comments. I think Mark V, and Mchin are onto something. I didn't realize I could offset a centerline path. If only I had been Conscious of what direction I was chaining. Next time I will be. Thanks to all for the help. Maybe in future releases, MC can figure out how to keep the toolpath chaining in tacked.
  6. OK I don't think there is much I can do here, but I'll ask anyways. I am programming for a Ebeam welding machine, so I do centerline toolpath. Once in a while I'll have to offset the path a little, so I use Xform offset contour. But everytime I do, I have to re-chain the path. Normally this isn't a big deal, but when programming for the ebeam, I have to do a stitch weld which involes sometimes 100 or more chains. I would like to offset the line and just regen the path. I know if I was driving on the left or right of the geo I could just use a stock condition, but like I said with my ebeam post I am stuck with centerline programming Is there anyway to do this? Thanks in advance for the help. I am using MCX4. I do not have MU1 installed yet.
  7. Mastercam V9 For no apparent reason or indication, my WCS will randomly change for a Mcam file. This happens to more than just one program, and often on ones that I had no issues with when the file was created. My WCS is renamed, along with Cplane, Tplane, and Gview. But the numbers is chooses is always random, and never the same. Any ideas?
  8. Thanks Everyone. That makes a lot of sense know.
  9. We run a lot of parts that are similar so I created a master MC9 file. When I start another program I open my master and "save as" the new part #. This works great, but when I go to post my program, the name defaults back to the original file name. Does anyone know how to make this stop happening. Thanks in advance.
  10. no, I see the N after I save name view and name it.
  11. It should be in the post under section "Rotary Axis Settings" You can assign letter to rotary axis and direction look for these lines: srotary "B" #Rotary axis prefix rot_ccw_pos : 1 #Axis sign dir,0=CW *** , 1=CCW *** Hope this helped
  12. I don't understand. When I save a view, MC designates a number for me to reference that view. Why when I come in the next morning those numbers are no longer valid. I think I can save a named view are maybe thats the way to do it right. But I just don't understand why the numbers MC assigns changes overnight.
  13. I think I understand. I have to recreate the Solid or surfaces from the wireframe in order to run tools over it. I do thank you for the help.
  14. Question #1: I have a little problem. First off, I'm new to this. So be gentle . Our shop has recently purchased MasterCam and I've been playing with solids. I have no problem when I create the solid, running tools over it. But I've recently found a site to get 3D wireframes from. 3D cafe But I can't seem to do any surfacing on them. They seem to have been created in AutoCad and DXF'ed out. Is there a way to use these wireframes to run tools over them and create 3d objects. Question 2: How do you create surfaces from a dumb solid? I was just asked to help out the programming department because I used to be a programmer. But the last software I used was Gibbs( before virtual ). Help if you can. Thanks.
