  1. In order to gain some general performance benefits we have moved some pre-processing of the model for use in STL Compare. The effect this has is to make general use faster but the time to process the model in STL Compare is slower. We need to process the model somewhere and we were affecting all users before by pre-processing. Since not everyone uses STL Compare we felt that moving the processing to the compare function itself made more sense. We are working on making the processing faster as well but this was a short term fix that had benefits for most users

  2. The dynamic rotation inside of Verify (Simulator) will use the original stock whenever the complexity of the model and toolpaths gets to a point where it takes more than 5 milliseconds to repaint each movement. This was implemented for performance reasons and if not implemented would cause the rotation to lock and become very unpleasant to use. You do have the collision checking window to to catch any collisions if you are concerned that something occurred while you were rotating. By double clicking on any of the collision entries, you can jump the tool to that location and further analyze any issue.

  3. AEP,

When drilling or milling using a c axis face drill/mill path, the first hole of the tool verification is correct, but each subsequent hole the tool flips 180 degrees and comes through the back of the part, like it would be if you were milling on the main spindle. I does it every time... c axis cross contours are fine, 5 axis tool paths are fine..

Please send in a part to [email protected] in regards to the c-axis drill and mill issue you describe. I would like to take a look at it and help you if I can. I have some examples here that work properly so I would be interested in seeing what's going on.

  4. The transform issue in verify moving through the part showing a gouge is being caused by the fact that verify is gouge detecting and material removing the reposition move. We need to modify the software so that the reposition move is not a cutting move. For full machine simulation that move is fully gouge detected and cutting but knowledge of the machine is necessary to simulate the move properly. When we release the next update to the software the fix for this will be included. We expect that update in the next couple of weeks.

  5. The way it is currently implemented, tool inspection is only applied at the end of a (raw) cut pass. A cutting pass will not be interrupted in the middle of a cut. The time and length trigger are only output at the end of that pass.

Would you consider it a high priority to implement it more precisely like it was done in Lathe over other improvements or knowing how it functions currently is adequate?

  6. Don't forget that stl files can be merged into your file if you want them saved together.

When opening the stl file select the options button and choose STL mesh. This will bring the stl data into Mastercam as a single entity that is selectable, shadable and usable as a drive or rest surfaces.

    Things to consider:

The stl data is added to your .mcx database so make sure it isn't a huge file.

When using stl models as rest models, the tolerance doesn't need to be very tight. Normally you are using the stl file as a tool to eliminate air cuts.

  7. Hello,

We are in the process re-desigining the launching of a Chook from the Misc. button because it is no longer a button, its an entry in a tree control (for HST now and for other toolpaths in the future). The question I have to Mill users is this. How many people use the ability to launch a chook using the Misc button? And briefly what are you doing with it?

We know it is used in Wire a lot we are just trying to get a feel for the number of Mill users who need this and for what, so that we can make it work correctly the first time.

    Thanks

  8. The fix for MR0304 is completed and available on the maintenance area of the website. There are 3 patches one for Mill, Lathe and Router respectively. It is only 250KB so it won't take long to download. The patch updates 4 files Mill9.exe, Lathe9.exe, Router9.exe and MCTUTL.dll. There is a link on the Maintenance page to a document explaining the problem and instructions to install the patches. This patch only fixes the NCI error no other fixes have been included.

This fix is only for Maintenance users whom installed MR0304.

  9. Hi Thad,

What occured is that the files for the Visual Basic editor did not register properly during install. This could be due to an incompatible OS. The VB stuff is using newer code and isn't supported on old NT4, or 98. Sometimes updating to the newest Internet Explorer will help this, but mastercam will function fine, unless you use the VB editor

  10. Mastercam Version 9 Beta 1 will be shipping to Beta sites this week.

We are actively searching for Beta sites for all products with the greatest need in Wire, and Lathe.

If anyone on the eMastercam Forum would like to become a Beta site, please send an email to [email protected] with "Beta Site Request" as the subject adn we will send you the details of the program.

Candidates must be using Mastercam Version 8.
