Say I'm trying to hold the depth of a pocket and I want to creep in on it. I want to take a pass, measure it, make an adjustment and another pass, measure it, etc until I hit my dimension. I don't trust the machine to just go right to the number. When I used to run Fadals, I could add a "G52 Z.005" at the start of the program and a "G52 Z0" at the end of the program and it would run the program .005 higher in Z. I could also do this in X or Y if I wanted to. I'm new to Haas machines and when the Haas guy came out to give me some training, he said to "Never, never, never use G52. It will change your offset and you won't be able to get back to your original settings." I could be a little off on that quote, but I do remember the "never use G52" part. Now, remembering how I used to use it on the Fadal, I'd like to use it on the Haas the same way. The trouble is, he scared me away from using it. I was reading in the manual about the control having 3 different G52 options, etc and it left me scratching my head. Why is this so hard? So, my question is can I use G52 like I used to on our Fadals and not have any work offset troubles? The Haas doesn't have a "common" offset to use like this. I'd rather not use something glogal if I can help it. That way if I forget to reset it, I don't cause problems on the next part. If it's contained in the program, the program gets ran and deleted...end of story. Also note that I don't want to alter my G52 Z value to accomplish this. Am I going about it the wrong way? How do you guys blend floors with multiple tools or creep in on a finish Z dimension? No Haas jokes please. Thad
