  1. So I am sure we have all seen the Titans of CNC video or seen it first hand perhaps. I'm talking about the glowing orange chips flying off while high speed machining the outside of a cylinder. Particularly an Inconel cylinder with ceramic tooling. So are the numbers in those video to be trusted and used for production? I am assuming not considering they were probably just going insanely fast for entertainment and awe factor. What SFM, chipload and radial stepover do you guys recommend? I have a Kennametal KenCut™ HT EADE Radiused 6 Flute Ceramic endmill coming it's 3/8 diameter with .281 LOC. I am going to be roughing the back side of an Aerospace cover that will be mounted to an aluminum fixture block held inside a v562 5th axis vise. It's being held with 6 Brass(not my idea on mtrl) #10 fine thread screws and banking on three .125 dwl pins. along with support from the fixture throughout the ID radius of the cover...Anyway please let me know this is my first time with a ceramic cutter.
  2. Hi all, I have done some Inconel in the past(700 series) but don't have a ton of experience with it. I have an upcoming job with some features like small .03" diameter corner reliefs and .05" dia. holes. My question is what is the best coating for Inconel 625? The stock is a 6.5" by 5" by 2" rectangle. I will be machining on a 5th axis into a semi circular cover of sorts. So there will be a lot of surfacing as well as those small features mentioned before. I did some searching online but found mostly Brand specific reccomendations like Helical's Tplus coating I know is good for Inconel but I am buying a custom dovetail tool from harvey and would like to know the best coating they offer specifically.
  3. So, I have never personally worked with this material. But we have cut this in the past using carbide endmills, with low tool life. Judging from the other Inconel I have done, this is somewhat typical. I have heard it three ways: M42 is better, carbide is better, PM is better. What do you guys think? What has worked well for you?
