Need to make sure the Comm port is set correctly to look to the server and everything is in the correct directories and defined to look for it.

Calling from an actual server somewhere or calling to the FANUC Dataserver?

The 31i-B5 control is capable of running right from a Dataserver without the M198 whereas the 16i control is not and requires the M198.

Here's an oldy but a goody topic that's been around for a while.

Thanks for like to the thread  James

Ideally I'd like to call sub programs from an actual server, as these subs vary and serialized. I'm thinking operator would enter a serial number into #850, main program would call sub program corresponding to the serial in #850 on the ( ex: server, dnc... where some one can update sub programs remotely)

Theoretically you should be able to do that by changing your Dataserver from "STORAGE" mode to FTP mode. You'll then need to set up the host connection from the Dataserver to the server (ip address, gateway, username, password, paths, etc...). Everything will need to be in the same folder (no sub-folders on the server).

I've never done it that way though. Shoudl be an interesting experiment.

The M198 P#nnn should work though. That would be an easy test with a simple M98 call.
