Custom tool and holder is not to scale?!?

Can't figure this one out: I've got my holder and endmill drawn (to scale) on a level. I have the 'custom level' checked on the 'Define tool' page and it "looks" ok. But when I Backplot its way too small. My 1.25dia endmill is shown to be .781dia and the holder is scaled down as well.

What the heck is going on?

Thanks for any help!!!

MetalFlake,

Are you following the right directions in creating the tool. It should not be created to scale. I have quite a few custom tools and I don't have any problems with them.

quote:

A custom tool profile must be saved in an MC9 file or on a level in the part file and must meet the following criteria:

¨ Draw the profile in the Top construction plane.

¨ Use only line and arc entities.

¨ Position the lower-left corner at X0, Y0.

¨ The X dimension must equal 1.0 in either metric or inch units. Mastercam can use the same tool profile in either metric or inch units.

¨ Use an open contour to outline half of the tool.

¨ No undercuts are allowed.

¨ Do not include other geometry in the file.

In Mastercam help menu search for custo tools.HTH

I have a full scale Renishaw MP10 70 DEG OMP Probe modeled using the 1/2 profile both in a file and on a level. Both work like a charm.

Hi fellows. Am I offtopic.gif

When wondering how to change tool holder in Mcam mill9. You sure can do custom tools and change them quickly, but how about holders. I tried to do some modifications to holder part file and it works in simulation and verification. After I did holder part files:holder,holder1,holder2,holder3.. Mcam finds only named: holder file. How can you change holder file quickly?? or is it have to rename original holder to holder.orig. and example holder1 to holder.

Just trying to use this to see is the real form holder crushing to work piece and how short you can set the tool to get best rigidity, especially with deep milling taps. banghead.gif No sleep till Hammersmith no sleep at all... firebounce.gif

Go to the FTP and in the unspecified uploads folder there shoudl be another folder called tools or something like that. There's a file called Mp10-70.mc9 and it works fine.

can`t find Mp10-70.mc9 file from ftp. I mean just what Hardmill says. You can switch tool length and radius by a parametric option but holder is always same and most of cases it is just holder which is causing damage to work piece. Is there no any libraries for most common holders (chucks)or do you have to draw them your self. In our workshop we have at least 100 different kind of holders.
