I use the MPLOKUMA post, haven't ran into any real problems though, but as with any post, it needs "tweaking" to get it to come out exactly how you want it.

Funny though, the conversation on the lathes is getting so good and fast that I rarely program something for our lathes anymore, usually just the more complex shapes and pulley grooves.

The mills on the other hand,I can't program fast enough to keep up with all my mills.

The Version 9 MPLOKUMA post is pretty good, the earlier versions are not so great. There is no support for the Misc Ops in the post but it isn't difficult to add the Misc Ops section from MPLFAN to make it work. There is currently no support for mill/turn in the post [WHY?!?!]. The MPLOSP7C post does support mill/turn but the rest of the post is not nearly as good as MPLOKUMA; hopefully V10 will bring it all together...

Here is a portion of our notes on Okuma lathes with live tools.

Hopefully it helps someone else out there.

(**********************************************************)

(* NOTES FOR USING LIVE-TOOL CUTTER RADIUS COMP. FUNCTION *)

(**********************************************************)

(1. THIS FUNCTION IS INTENDED TO BE USED WITH "CONTROL"-)

( CUTTER COMP. WITH POSITIVE CUTTER RADIUS IN THE-)

( OFFSETS & BY PROGRAMMING THE ACTUAL PART PROFILE.)

()

(2. G17 MUST BE PROGRAMMED ON A LINE BEFORE G41 OR G42.)

()

(3. "WEAR" CUTTER COMP. WITH OFFSETS AT ZERO & PROGRAMMING-)

( THE TOOL-CENTER PATH IS POSSIBLE BUT NOT RECOMMENDED.)

( THE MACHINE WILL ACCEPT NEGATIVE OFFSETS BUT IGNORES-)

( THE "MINUS" SIGN & BACKS UP AS IF IT WERE A POSITIVE!)

( U/SIZE OR WORN TOOLS CAN'T BE ADJUSTED TO CUT TO SIZE!)

( A WAY TO "CHEAT" WITH THIS METHOD IS BY OFFSETTING-)

( THE X-AXIS TO COMPENSATE. THE PROBLEM IS THAT IF IT-)

( IS OFFSET TOO MUCH, CONCAVE OR CONVEX FLATS CAN OCCUR.)
