Job setup defaults

When I use the "Job setup" section in

"Toolpaths" and select a material from the library, this automatically inputs that data in to the contour tool path. My problem is however, why does it only change the feed rate but not the plunge rate or retract rate feeds (they remain the same as set in the "define tool parameters section").

Click in Calc. Speed/Feed Button in Define Tool for change plunge rate and retract rate feeds.

What kind of retract rate would you suggest for a 1/2" flat end mill? How would you calcualate it - like a drill? If so, would that satisfy ALL Mastercam users?

It needs to be configurable in your material definition. Maybe in Version 9?

Actualy, when you specify feeds/speeds from material, the plunge rate is calculated at 50% of the feed rate.

I've often wondered(especially recently) where that value comes from. I'm suspecting that it's "hard-coded" in the software. I'd like to be able to specify the plunge feed percentage.

I'm curious under what circumstances would one have to use feed retract? I only remember toggling this option accidentally and always use rapid retract.

I used to use feed retract for boring. Now I use feed retract because my diamond routers develop a lip at the bottom and if Mr. sawhand cuts the slab longer than he told me the retract will snap the tips making a 150.00 tool useless. You did ask............
