Illegal arc move when backplotting

Has anyone seen this before?

 

Simple 2-D part with one contour toolpath. Computer compensation... No Problem. Switch to Control for compensation... Big problem. When backplotting, toolpath looks "choppy" and "jumpy". It looks as though I chained different entities all over the part one at a time. Eventually, I get an error telling me "illegal arc move: Location X(value) Y(Value) Z(Value)"

 

Any Ideas? If I'm doing something wrong let me know.

Is backplot not supported with compensation in control?

 

Thanks in advance. I messed with this all yesterday afternoon and finally gave up.

Eastech 1,

 

While in Backplot, select Display and look for a switch on the right that says "Simulate cutter compensation". Sometimes that switch will fix the Backplot. Other than that, the toolpath should be OK unless, as Tim Johnson suggests, you have arcs in the toolpath that are smaller than the radius of the tool. I use Wear comp mostly myself but to each their own. If your curious as to what Wear comp is or does, do a Search on this forum using Compensation for a keyword and I'm sure you'll find many past discussions on it. HTH cheers.gif

You can also check the optimize box and it will create a path that will fix the arcs smaller than the tool radius. You just have to remember that you didn't really get the proper radius in those spots.

BTW, I hate wear comp. I like to use full/control. I also leave the optimize box unchecked to start. If I get this message then I know that I have to finish the path with a smaller cutter. I then will check the box and do a remachine with a smaller tool.

I don't know if it makes a difference, but I would think I would get the same error with computer comp on, were it a problem with cutter size vs. radius. The arc is a great deal larger than the cutter. I thought it might be a problem withthe lead in/out, but no problems there. I haven't tried wear comp.

I will try turning the simulation off, as I've been using the simulation this whole time, however, I don't see why this shouldn't work with simulation, I mean toolpaths don't get much simpler than this. Who knows.... Will update.
