Router Guys, PCD or diamond coat in MDF

For tool cost vs. life in MDF. What do you use? Can you recommend a supplier?

We cut a small amount of MDF for templates and such and use a 2-flute carbide insert mill. These can be flipped once. They work fine, but don't last too long and I'm not real happy with the fact that they won't let you plunge. Let me know what you find out.

I don't cut a lot of MDF myself but here's where I buy my cutters.

Is anyone using Diamond cutters?

The disposable diamond cutters are about $200 a pop and they will only recommend running about 300-400IPM. We use the Onsrud Max Life compression tools and they last forever. I set a customer uup with 15 1/2" Tools when he bought the machine. He cuts 3/4" CDX Plywood at 900IPM all day long and these 15 tools lasted him almost a year. In MDF they will not last that long but they do outlast anything I have used and we run thru about $20,000 of MDF a month in our production shop. 1/2" Onsrud Max Life compression cutter is a 60-163MW lists for $74.65 each and well worth it. I run 900IPM and up in 3/4" MDF with these babies.
