Rotary Axis Positioning Help

Recommended Posts

I need help. I dont have alot of experience using 4th axis in Mastercam X. I am trying to use Rotary Axis Positioning to rotate my work piece (5" diameter by 4" long stock) to multiple positions to create multiple flats on the part where inserts will be mounted. I have the points where the flats need to be located ploted on the outside of the piece. When I try to create the the toolpaths, I rotate the part so that the point if on the top and then create the toolpath. I am not sure if this is right way to do this. Anyone help will be greatly appreciated.

When you create toolpaths on the 4th axis the eaisest way to create flat patterns as you need is to use the T/C planes for the correct orientation.

If you do a search on WCS you should find a WCS tutorial done by HArdmill which will show you not only how to create and work with the WCS but it also shows you how the T/C planes work.
