What version and patch is installed

When I push ALT V, one of the things I see appears to be a date in parentheses. I would like to ask two questions:

1. What is the significance of the date and,

2. With all the patches being offered, I am having trouble remembering what patches I have installed etc. It seems when I have installed a patch, I am unable to see the difference in what I see in ALT V.

How can I find out what patches I have installed?

The date is the build date. That is to say, it's the date that the executable was built on (the day they pressed F7 in Microsoft Visual C++ for the final time before burnin' CDs ).

Sadly, there currently isn't a sleek way to find out versions and such of various updates. I suppose you can look at the dates of the files in question in Windows Explorer. Hope this helps
