I know this isn't a CNC forum, but I need a little help. I am ready to run the part I have been designing. It is a cylinder that is 4" long, 5" diameter. The part is in a rotary axis on a HAAS VF4. The part in mastercam is drawn with the G54 origin at the very center of the part. I set my G54 in the machine and go to run the program in graphics, and I keep getting a Y-Overtravel alarm. When setting the work coordinate in the machine. I come in with a half inch endmill and touch off the part, and then move over half the cutter for the x. The Y, i do the same thing, but move in an extra 2.5 inches, the radius of the part. I dont know what I am doing wrong to give me a Y overtravel alarm. Any ideas or suggestions?

In your program what is the coordinate of your first y move?

 

It probably should not be any larger than +3.000 or -3.00 give or take a bit.

where is the origin of the part at the machine?

front face, back face for the X, centerline of the part for the Y, top,bottom or middle of part for Z ?

Here is the chunk of program that is giving me the problem. On the line N5, the Y0. is where I am getting the alarm message at.

While in the graphics screen press F4 and it will show your gcode on the screen. Press the start button and when it alarms out the highlighted line will be your problem. Look at the code your y move is likely to big for the machine.

The Y move is where the origin is. Y0.

The origin for the part is:

X: Left Side/Face

Y: Middle of the part

Z: Middle of the part

Then your problem is probably in your offset. Clear your work offsets, home the machine and try it again.

I got it working. All I did Dave was cleared out all the work offsets, and rehomed the machine and it worked. Thanks.

Yep on something like that I would mdi in a g54 xo yo Let you know right away if machine is touched off right or not.
