  1. It can't. It's a Positional 5 Axis Rotate A & C and lock in place then machine. So far the guys we have talked to with ball bars can't get in here for a couple of weeks.
  2. We recently purchased a used Nissin Max410I 5axis machining center with a Fanuc 21I mb controller on it. The machine has a couple of problems. 1) the finish isn't what it should be. If you cut a circle with the machine it leaves what would best be described as a sawtooth finish in the part(cutting aluminum). I put a .0001 indicator in the spindle and indicated the hole in and the needle is constantly jumping about .0002. 2) I ran a 1.5" diameter circle at 7600rpm and 20"/minute feedrate and the circle is fairly round but rough finish. I put xxxxm in the hole sped the feedrate up to 150inches per minute and ran the program again. I had to add .009 in the tool compensation before all of the bluing cleaned up that I had put in the hole. I then put the indicator back in the machine and rechecked the hole and it showed to be .008" bigger diameter in the x than it was in the Y. We have had Fanuc in to work on the controller and they said the issues was mechanical. We brought someone in to work on the mechanics and so far he has not found anything wrong but says we should start by changing the thrust bearings out. Any ideas as to what the problem might be with the mahine? I can get a decent finish so long as I'm only cutting in one axis at a time. Thanks.
  3. I would like to send it over but it is against company policy. I will try again to get our designers to give me dxf files and see if they will import. Thanks for the help
  4. Is there a way to import Unigraphics drawing files(2d prints) into Mastercam or Solidworks? Solidworks will import the native Unigraphics solid file with no problems but I can't get the 2d print to come in.
  5. Suppose to receive this machine early next week. I received new hasp codes for Mastercam wire package last Friday and have been playing with it some. Will the Generic Fanuc post work for this machine or will I need a special post? Thanks
  6. Thanks for the info. Does anyone on here have one of Fanuc Robocut I-med machine? Are thy any good? Can you import dxf? Are they easy to operate? Craig
  7. On Wire edm machines what is the U. & V. Axis on the machine. We are looking at purchasing a Fanuc Robocut I Med machine. The X Y Z travels are 14.6" x 10.6" x 10.2 The U/V Travels are 2.36" inches, What does this mean? thanks
  8. Once again I want to thank John for his help. We had to rotate the part on the Tilt table instead of rotating the table on the horizontal machine to get this to work out.
  9. Got the file. Once again thanks for the help.
  10. Where did you send the file to? Thanks for the help.
  11. Thanks for the replies. JDowe I will check the numbers in the morning and see if the work out for me. The tilt table is just a manual table that we set up with a 5" sine plate and indicator. Set the table at 32.875 degrees and clamped the part on it. Then put the whole table on the machine and clamped it down and rotated the fourth axis on the machine.
  12. I've put a file on the FTP named CQ_REAR_COVER ftp://www.mastercam-cadcam.com/Mastercam_forum/X4_Files/ I'm going to put the 16mm hole in on a compound angle using a Horizontal 4 axis Machining center, and a Tilt table. I laid the hole out, with a scribe, on the part tilted the table to 32.2875 and rotated the machine to 20.483 Set up off of the tooling ball and moved X-2.9737 and Y 2.0145 and it doesn't come out Right. Question is: What angle should the tilt table be tilted to, What angle should the table be rotated to, What distance should I move off of the tooling ball in x & Y.
  13. I expected to get several. I've heard good things about the Agies myself but know very little about Wire edm. One thing I failed to mention is accuracy (5 micron tolerance on a lot of our work) and finish would be very important on anything we buy but I'm not sure how accurate you can get with a wire edm machine, I'm just starting to look at them.
  14. I've been asked to get some qoutes on wire edm machines. Most parts we work on would be no bigger than about a 12" x 12" x 2", most of the time it would be much smaller. Only wire machine I've ever used was a Mitsubishi and didn't run it very much but it wasn't very user friendly. Thanks
  15. X4 mu1 The trim function will not work if I have maintain only mask checked and and have a color selected. Example: New file draw to lines that cross each other in the same color then select only, select the color you just drew the lines in then select maintain only mask and try trimming one of the lines. Everything works fine so long as the Maintain only Mask is not selected. Is anyone else seeing this problem.
  16. Solidworks for 3D software. http://www.solidworks.com/sw/esp/engineeri...us_package.html Go here and you can download and try it out.
  17. I use to do it on the cnc on a regular basis, used Walter Inserted mills and it worked well.
  18. I've only had 1 or 2 crashes since installing X4 sometime ago.
  19. File open, select the stp file, click options and check the boxes solids and edge curves, ok and ok. After the file opens Delete duplicate entities, the icon with three erasers. If all you need is the outside profile and it is not already flat, click xform project and chain the entities that you want to be flat and type in the depth you want them at and click ok.
  20. Have you checked to see if the part came in as group and tried breaking the group?
  21. You may also want to look at Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro Extended. They have a 30 day free trial and claim to open most any file. I've tested it on Solidworks, Pro-E, and Mastercam. It will open Solidworks and Pro-E will not open Mastercam file. You can then export the model as iges, xt, step, or stl. Can Also save as a pdf file.
  22. I'm trying to help someone over the phone get his new computer set up to be able to send a program from his computer to his Haas machine through the RS232 port. I believe all of the settings in the Mastercam Editor is set correctly, the problem is when he clicks the send button at top that should then have a pop up that says Transfer Status he gets a alarm (Windows Vista) that says something to the effect of Unable to get window handle for AX Code Max control.windows active control. This sounds like Windows Vista is not allowing the Transfer. Any ideas what needs to be turned on or off to allow this to work?
  23. Thanks for the help. I'll cut on a small piece and try the flame and see how it goes.
  24. Yes it is transparent to start with.
  25. I'm going to be cutting some 3/4" thick Bullet Resistant Polycarbonate. I need to maintain a good finish on this then be able to polish it back to clear see through finish. The cuts will be 3D Surfaces probably with 1/4" and 1/8" EMs. Any suggestions for style and/or brand of endmills. What will I need to polish the cut surfaces to get it back to a clear see through cover. This is going to be an oil pump cover that we are going to set up with a strobe and camera so we can film what is actually going on with the oil flow. So the cover needs to be clear as glass when its done. Thanks
