Setting the angle depends on couple things.

material:

For steel I go with a smoother angle than aluminum.

Clearance:

are there walls I don't want to violate.

and

The angle of the surface to your current toolplane also makes a difference.

There may be other factors at play here also it just depends on your situation.

If you put an example of what you're trying to do on the FTP I'm sure someone would take a look at it and make some suggestions for you.

The idea of Direction in surface paths is a better way of getting the tool into the surface cut without directly plunging with the center of the tool into the cut.

This also a good tool when doing surface under cutting with a Keyway cutter or lollypop tool.

Great tool for surfacing use it all the time.

I uasly try to make the tool come in so it uses a radial cut compared to say the direct axial cut. This the tool for that.

Well if I catch you right each shape is different and there are NO rules for this. I would say most people do not use it because they don't know how to use it or how it works.

But like I say there is No golden rule, just how do you want to get the tool in and out most efficiently trying to avoid plunging or hitting another surface or so on.

If you have some thing pacific you are trying this on that you can share. I can try and help you with that one.
