X Editor File Compare

I'm running the MR1/SP2 Mastercam Editor. I click on "Compare" and then "Compare Files" and then select two NC files. I hit OK and nothing ever happens. Any thoughts anyone?!?!? Also, in the file select dialog box, if I hit the big Question Mark for help, it tells me that the page cannot be displayed.

I have not been able to get this feature to work either.

We save our programs as .txt here and it pulled 2 of my files in without a hitch. I know that doesn't fix your problem but perhaps it's an extension thing.

I have used this several times and it works for me. After you have selected the two nc files and hit the 'green check', another box will open up and you then click 'compare'. Hope this helps

You have to have your own file compare utility, like Windiff. The compare button on the editor is just a short cut. You configure the editor to use your utility by going to the tools-options on the editor's tool bar, then pick the compare tab. This is where you tell it where to find the external compare utility. If you search for "compare" in the editor's help function it will explain it.

I have used the compare feature several times. It seems to work fine here.

We include a very simple visual compare program called DiffCalc.exe with the editor, the exe is located in the same folder as the editor. From the editor options dialog is that program set as your compare program?

 

As :cough: someone mentioned, you can set any program as your default compare program for the editor, I personally prefer Beyond Compare.

Obviously, I'm still learning. I remember Cimco being included with an earlier version as a freebie and then that changed and I was just using the MCam Editor because that is what popped up by default after posting in X. I thought it would be cool to compare an NC file that I had created with and without various filters and I saw that "Compare" button, and well, you all already know the rest of the story!

Why did Cimco start getting into toolpathing?

 

That might have a "little" to do with the "business" decision.

If you have v9 installed you can set a cimco icon on your desktop and customize x to use it too. Peter

Even better set cimco as the default editor.

Copy cimco editor from Mcam v9, common ,editors folder to the McamX , common, editors folder.
