OT reamers

In our situation (400 grade stainless) we use solid carbide reamers up to .375" dia for production runs. Anything above that we use boring bars. No brand preferance on my part when it comes to reamers... Not sure what kind of production #'s you're talking about, but I find that our reamers will last for about 5000 holes.

Quality drill will also make your reamer last a lot longer.

I have never used thru-coolant reamers. No problems evacuating chips on the horizontal wink.gif

We use Fullerton reamers [solid carbide] with mixed success; I'd like to rap with any of you guys that ream a lot of holes to help me get better at it because we seem to fight with oversize / undersize conditions a lot.

David - I typically drill, then bore with an endmill, then ream for better positional control. I use the 'stock for reaming' chart in the Fullerton book as a guideline; seems to work OK

I am going to use a stub solid carbide thru coolant drill that is .366, and then just ream to the finish size of .3745. The drill should not be able to walk enought to cause problems with hole locations or spreads. I was looking for a tool that would run fast and consistantly for as long as possible. I have used an endmill to nail the location in the past, but usually only when i am stuck with high speed drills and hss reamers.
