masking holes on mcx

I am trying to mask drill holes on my part and it is picking up the top and bottom of my arcs when i window.Is there any way just to pick the top set of arcs?

change graphics view to front and put window around only the level you want to pick. You could use dynamic view also.

Could you mask for circle centers and then delete duplicates?

I don't know which would be considered the duplicate, but you may end up with some from the top part of the hole and some from the bottom part of the hole. That would work if you did your drilling in absolute. I do 99% of my drilling in incremental.

I just ran a little test and when you are in point selection mode, if you change to 2D and mask for arcs and filter out duplicates, only 1 point for each hole is selected. In my case the bottom point was picked, so I was able to set depths based on that. However, this may only work if all your holes are at the same depth.

Interestingly, I modified the depth on 2 of the holes in the 12 hole array I created for this test and noticed several outcomes. Apparently, when using 2D selection and incremental depth, top of stock and retract values, Mastercam uses the bottom of the hole arc center to correctly set the drill depth, but uses the top arc to set the retract depth. However, on the 2 holes with a different depth, Mastercam uses the top arc to also set the depth on those holes--interesting! I uploaded my little test, DRILL_TEST.MCX, into the MCX folder on the ftp site for anyone interested.
