Tantalum Project

Aloha muchachos! ok, here is the project:

 

we have some 1/8" thick Tantalum blanks, 7" x 11" rectangle. we are need to use a slot mill, a REALLY THIN slot mill to cut some REALLY shallow grooves in the plate. basically a criss-cross design if u will that is gonna run across the whole plate. grooves are going about .03-.04 deep. The blanks are gonna be held in a vacuum-like tombstone. now, can ANYBODY give us a start point as to what we can expect from this stuff etc.

 

i did some research on this stuff and its pretty titanium like. anybody familiar with cutting this stuff?

It cuts like titanium but a little softer.

It also very expensive material !

Do what you got to do to get it right the first time.

If memory serves me right, the best coolant is wesson oil. (Yea I know)

We have worked with it here. It cut just like titanium. But make sure you get it right on the first try. That stuff is expensive. We keep it locked up just in case someone trys to take some.
