Backplotting with MasterCam Lathe

Im planning on purchasing a Haas TL-1 lathe and Mastercam. Ive noticed on the mastercam demo's that when backplotting they always show the tools from the back side of the lathe. The TL-1 lathe is setup like a manual lathe where the tools are cutting from the front. Is it possible in Mastercam to show the tools cutting from the front when backplotting?

yes it can, it is how the machine def/tool is defined.

 

The reason you see it that way in the demo is because that is the way the vast majority of lathes are setup. And it is the way most people are used to setting up tools (correct holders and inserts).

I think that you must define the tool as a lower turret tool to see it 'correctly' in that case

I have found that if you define the turret as "lower" you have to double check your tool orientations (upper left hand corner of the tool set up dialog box)

I've never messed with the upper or lower turret on theTL-1. Always verify with tools on top and it works and posts fine, never had a problem. Personal preference and depends on the part I guess

Typically it is not an issue, but some folks like to see it 'like it really is.' I personally program everything top-turret, left-spindle regardless of how it actually is in the machine.
