Help with X divide function please

Recommended Posts

trim..divide the icon with the red, and then select the line you want to divide.

The only thing I can't get , is that it divides between the 2 closest entities. sometimes I need to go and trim the rest of the line I need to get rid of.

MC deletes the entity that you click on using the intersecting entities as a boundary. If there's only one entity that intersects it, then that becomes the trimming point.

Sometimes, as John said, you have to click a few times to get what you want.

Yes, it's normal. V9 made you select the trimming entities.

It was meant to be an improvement in MCX. You have to click less when you want to get rid of a single entity between to other entities, but you have to click more in other circumstances. In V9, it was the other way around. Not really an improvement IMO, just a switching of what was easier.

Hi Tommy,

I'm sorry that you didn't find the help topic helpful. Can you be more specific so that we can address this issue? For instance, did you have trouble searching in the help for a topic covering trimming or dividing?

Were you able get to the Trim/Extend/Break ribbon bar help topic by clicking the Help button on the ribbon bar? Did you then click the Button definitions tab to get specific information on the Divide function? Was the information unclear or incomplete?

Thanks for any input you can give us so that we can improve the usability and/or content of the help topic for that function.

Slight hijack...

Hi Karen,

I'm surprised that vb or script get no hits in either the index or search functions in MC help.

How to run them, general info about them, keymapping them, etc would be helpful info.

Hi Thad,

No problem on the hijack. We solicit and appreciate all suggestions regarding the documentation of Mastercam. It helps us help you!

We're currently improving both the search and indexing functionality in the help system for our next release (X2). I will note your specific requests for improved search and index needs.

In addition, I will enter an Enhancement Request for conceptual and procedural documentation regarding vb scripts and related info such as keymapping.

Thanks again Thad!

I simply went to the help index and searched for Divide. It will bring up trim many and break etc. but never mentions how to divide a line. I am not knocking the help section at all but this one time I suppose I needed to look for help elsewhere in the software. As an old windows hard head I usually try and find something myself first then go search the help file index. If that does not give me any results I start asking around others or help.

Hi again Tommy,

Thanks for getting back to me on that. I'll make sure that the help topic that covers the Trim/Extend/Break ribbon bar is indexed more thoroughly for our next release. Also, a lot of the details on how to do stuff is located in the pop-ups on the Button definitions tab of the dialog box topic, so don't forget to make that extra click.

It sounds like maybe a step-by-step procedure topic might have helped too. We're including many more procedures for creating geometry in our next release. I'll put in an Enhancement Request to create similar procedures for editing geometry. We're pretty busy around here though, so the editing procedures probably won't make it in for our next release. Oh well..........job security, right?

Have a great weekend!

Karen
