Chamfering

Any tips on chamfering.

The components we manufacture have to be totally

deburred , and chamfering at various levels up to vertical walls ( without hitting them ) currently

is a time consuming process to program.

I am currently creating geometry away from vertical walls and then contouring. As there can be 100s of walls to aviod doing this is as much fun as watching paint dry.

Is there an easyer way.

Cheers

Now have you tried using contour chamfer at all use say a carbide spot drill?

Makes for some great chamfers.

This way you can use the existing geo.

You might have to break a line or two.

But you should not have created all new offset geo.

In nine of course this will be a little easer with Dynamic chain so you can stop it any were along a chain.

May be I wasn"t to clear.

We use modifyed carbide chamfering tools - dia 6mm with 0.5mmx0.5mm 45deg edge. Is there a way of chamfering up to a vertical wall (edge of a multi level pocket)without creating boundary geometry.

Somthing like check surfaces but for 2d geometry.

Cheers

  • 1 year later...

With version 9.1 (if you have it) you can use the "adjust start of contour" and "adjust end of contour" section of the Lead In/Out dialog in most toolpaths to shorten your toolpath by your tool radius.

That is the way to go...I Use this option constantly. smile.gif
