o/t spindle re-grinding

I've seen ad's for spindle taper regrinders, anyone with any first hand experience or recommendations?

Just had one done by a local guy. We have the spindle rebuilt the company that rebuilt it did not do this. BTW they will never do another spindle for us. So this thing was running out about .0013. Guy cam in and ground it on the machine now we can not even see it move with a 50 millionth's indicator. Sound so much better and I think it will help the cutting 10 fold for surface finishes.

 

The only draw back is the toolchange position is hosed and has to be reset.

 

I would do a little research on who in your area machine builders recommned to do this.

What a trip. There is a guy right outside my window in the shop re-grinding 2 spindles! He just happens to be from Oregon. Lol. Here is his Linky Really nice guy too. HTH.

Well I've cleaned up marks and high spots in spindle tapers with the yellow lapping compound. I removed the tabs on the spindle and lightly coated a tool taper with the pull stud removed and sowly ran it in and out by hand. It got rid of the high spot and brought it back running true.

+1 to Nick (Mexitaljew)... Frank Brian is his name and he's one of the best (IMO he is the best... but I'll give "others" the benefit of doubt). And he's a "local" boy for you Chris....

Hey guys,

 

Any body have a source in Cambridge Ontario for spindle re-grind. We have an old fadal in our Cambridge facility that had a tool come loose and needs to be reworked. A new spindle is over $5K and the machine is hardly worth that.

It's probably the same guy mentioned above. Frank of Certified Spindle Prep. He used to live down there in Baldwin Park and moved to Oregon some years back. click on the link Franco provided above. One of the best in the business like Rob(psycho) said and he travels all over the country.
