roughing surfaces or extending for toolpath

Is there a way to extend the cut area off of a surface so that the cutter cuts outside of the surface so that the tool does not just cut up to the surface edge and thats it. I've tried creating extended surfaces but since the surfaces are already trimmed I get the "no can do" message.

Anybody know another way to skin this cat.

For some vital info needed to answer this question.

surfaces are the top of a part and sweep from left to right in a top view, and in a front view from x0 y0 the part has z minus bow x20 y-.75 at mid point and back up to x40 y0 at the end

You can try the various extension types (tangential, etc) in Gap Settings toward the bottom of the window. This doesn't work for all toolpaths and it only affects the gap (area between passes).

You can also try Create-Surface-Remove Boundary (or somesuch) on single edges of a trimmed surface. Then you can extend them.

The new fence surface comes out nice at times.

Hi, if you use the new HST toolpaths there's another option you can try -- there's an option to add an extra offset to your tool containment boundary, this might work for you too. You can use it to offset the tool from the boundary in either direction, either cutting a bit past it, or not quite all the way to it.
