Lathe, Okuma, peck groove tool

Hello everyone,

Not familiar with the lathe in MC v9

I have a simple groove tool and I peck in the OD for a groove.

When it does, it rapids out like I want but then it feeds all the way back into groove. I would like it to rapid back in within a set amount like .015 or so then begin to feed once more, deeper and so on.

Is this a setting within the dialog parameters or in the post to get what I need.

Are you retracting ALL the way out of the groove between pecks?(there is a retract amount setting in the peck parameters)

Are you taking depth cuts?(there is a retractiom setting in there also)

Yes I have tried both depth cuts and Peck groove

Retact moves abs. and inc. but the code will not post as I want. to rapid until .015 from where it left off. Imagine a peck drilling cycle.

Are you using steps or smooth for the grooving? With steps you get more of a retracting motion for some grooves than others. I would look to the lead in and lead outs for the way the tool spporaches and leaves the groove as well. This helps when going it tight areas or against shoulders.

Got a file email it to me.

 

What do you have on the stock set-up page for tool clearence. This is different on Lathe. Mill/Router does not have this opition.

 

I change it here for toolpaths, but it changes the whole file so watch for what you get through out the whole toolpath.

When I tried messing with it, I set the Retract moves to .015 Inc. This is a snippet of the code I got:

With a retract move set to .015 incremental it only moves .015 off of the piece at a rapid, then starts to cut again. Unless you are having issues clearing the chip, this would work.

you could just use the canned groove cycle and change your clearance parameter to .015
