Yang Machine?

I'm not sure about the model but I know a guy that has two 20x40 machines. They're very weak at low rpm, the spindle is cooled by coolant so at higher rpm you can't run dry. It's also lubricated with grease in which I wouldn't like but he seems to be ok with it. He has had them about 6 years now and they seem to be holding up pretty well.

I'm guessing he means the spindle is cooled with cutting fluid [Haas and others are also this way] so if you want to run dry you need to plumb in a bypass so that the coolant can flow through the head but then back to the tank instead of onto the workpiece. The grease is for ballscrews and ways [no way lube oil] which is the way a couple of our Okumas are set up; I think this will actually be "the way of the future."

Chris nailed it. What I don't like about the grease is that it will absorb moisture that will be held on the ballsrew/ways untill the next (manual) greasing which I think is either once a week or every other week. Way lube also absorbs moisture to a lesser extent, but is constantly being replaced automatically.
