Trimming problem

I am still using MC8.1 and I recieved an iges file of a part I have to make,the part needs to be made in 3 pieces.I tried to trim to a plane,but it does not trim all the surfaces to that plane.It only trimmed away the surfaces that had edges on that plane line.I feel I am using to outdated software for the file that was givin to me.The file that was supplied has no wire frame,and I am not a cad cam guru,my boss has more confidence in me than I do.

Take the line that you want to trim to and project it onto your surfaces. Then trim to the projected line (trim surfaces to curves feature). You will probably have to extend the ends after you project it so that the curve goes past the surfs on both ends.
