multi axis curve

I'm trying to scribe some grid lines in X and Y. The ones that travel along in X look good in backplot. But the ones that travel in Y, when it gets to the end of the grid, instead of retracting straight up in Z,then moving to the next grid line in X and Y, it moves directly to the next grid line in a 3 axis move.

I don't do a lot of 5 axis work, but I never had this problem in X MR1/2, but I noticed this once before in X2. Anyone else have this problem or know how to get around it?

Yes, I've been trying to scribe letters on a cylinder with Curve 5-x using the 4th axis option. It looks as if (it) decides when to retract, sometimes does, most of the time doesn't. It connects letters together.

I have the retract hight of .25 and feed plane of .1 Chord height of .001 maximum step .1 (default). confused.gif

I just decided to go back to a simple contour. I like the multi axis curve because it breaks up the contours so that the operators can shift it on the fly at whatever increment I set it to. But I think I can arrive at the same end by actually breaking up the grid lines using break--many pieces.
