HTH cheers.gif

I didnt add stock so if you want to stay away from the wall I would add a couple thou stock if you use my method.

I only used the final pass

you can use as many passes as needed to remove the excess...working from the inside out...

I would use an a high feed mill to start off with. We use ingersol 2" and 1.5".

The 2" is a 3 flute and we run @ .05 DOC at 100 IPM feed...650 RPM...

Might have to slow it down a tad for Sommers dieblocks...they make some tuffer stuff.

But the Finkle, FX2 and WF, run pretty good at those speeds even on an interupted cut.

I think they have some Mitubusi High feed mills out there too. They work pretty good also.

We use the Iscar, but the inserts don't hold up as long but for a 40 taper they are easier on the machines vs the negative ones...

We have HAAS VF6's with 40 tapers so we have to take it easy on them...

YW man cheers.gif

You running 180IPM in a 40 or 50 taper?

I am very interested in that cutter, I looked it up.

Sorry told ya wrong the 2" was a 4 flute...

I wondered why our RPM's were that much different... headscratch.gif

I bet they could run @180 if they would grow some balls out there...

But alas, I cannot make these guys do anything they don't wanna do... bonk.gif

Actually if ya look at the geometry of the high feed inserts they might as well be a button mill....

I bet they would get more out of a button mill headscratch.gif they only have 2 sides with the ones they are using...

Anyways glad to be some help to someone biggrin.gif

quote:

we used to use iscar feed mills but if you chip an inert you nmight as well buy a new tool.

Ya that's why we only use them on boiler plate...

No way we could cut die steel @ 260IPM...at least not for very long.

Maybe FX2 with a bunch of insert changes but you would have to stay on top of it...

I like to make lights out proggys....so I will sacrafice some time just to be sure...

One thing about the high feed vs the button is in the corners the Highfeed has less surface bearing so you can run them faster comming up to a wall...

Hey Ocean, you use the Highfeed option over there?
