x2 mr2, posts, update/upgrade

we're currently using x mr1 mill, 2 stations

and v9.1 lathe

 

current late posts don't work well with mcamX, even with conversion, so our lathe guy doesn't use X

 

we're getting new computers and the company want's all stations update to the latest version.

 

our posts are legacy from v8.11, and require a lot of manual code edits ( conversions work ok with v9 and X mr2, still lots of manual code editing).

 

we have fanuc, seimens, heidenhain 5ax and burny controls

 

To update the posts is it better to modify the existing v8.11 posts or just start from scratch using mpmaster for x2 mr2?

MPMaster contains all the new logic that is used in current X2. Dump that V8 post and start fresh. I'm sure with a little help from the members on this board and your reseller, you can get a clean post that requires no hand editing of the gcode.

I'm in that exact same boat... almost. I'm currently getting help from severall members helping me modify a Generic 2x Fanuc post. I haven't botthered with the mpmaster becuase our lathe is pretty basic with no bells and whistles. I hear it doesn't even do canned drill cycles.

The MPLMaster is what you are talking about, for lathe anyways. And yes, with the improvements it's worth the download. The major one, IMO, would be the recent G70 fix (mi10)...

There comes a point in time where it just realy makes sense to start a new post. I'd say V9 and earlier posts should probably be retired. Yeah it may be time consuming, yeah it's gonna be a bugger, but it's well worth it IMHO.
