Contemplating New Computer - any suggestions

I was looking for some advice on this topic.

We run a Komo CNC Router with a Fanuc 210 - im controller. The controller is Windows 95 based, and can not be easily or inexpensively upgraded to a newer OS.

We use X2 MR2 for CAD/CAM work and sending code to CNC controller, along with normal MS Office type apps.

We have been using Dell Latitude laptop, with Windows XP Pro, for several years now, and the laptop has a small hard drive (by today's standards) and seems slow when working with larger surface type files.

If you were to upgrade to a new laptop, what would you pick? Hopefully something that will be very fast and capable of working with X2 while still being able to network with the Windows 95 OS on the Fanuc.

If you really like your laptop you could get an external USB hard drive and pull as much off of your laptop's hard drive ($150 at Costco) as possible. We do this and just try and keep active files on our PC hardrive.

Also check out this thread Benchmark

I know this is a long thread but it is worth the time. I know there has been lots of talk about laptops and speed.
