Small slot in plastic?

Hi all!

Have a job here that I need to put a .042 wide X .180 deep slot in. The part dimensions are .228 wide x .300 high x 18.00 long. Using a slittling saw is not really an option by the way I plan to hold the part. I'm looking to do this with an endmill. The material is UHMW Polyethylene. My plan is to double side tape a sheet down and mill the parts complete leaving a couple thou at the bottom so not to break through. Does anyone know of a good tool to use for this slot and suggestions on speeds and feeds? I have a 240000 RPM Robodrill I plan on using.

Thanks for any suggestions

Mike

redface.gif You guys don't miss a thing biggrin.gif

24,000 it is!!

What kind of chip load can I put on a 1/32 endmill in plastic? 24000 with a .001 chip load at .020 depth of cut is a little slower then I wanted to go.

I'm rethinking this one. The small depths of cut are going to kill me in cycle time. I'm thinking of just holding this in a couple of vises and using a keyseat cutter. Did not really want to go this route but the cycle will be much faster
