Why is boring bar flat?

Anyone else out there have flat boring bars in Lathe-V9.1? I would think the shanks should be round?

What setting do I need to change?

Look on the tool set-up and make sure the round button is checked.

When I double-click my tool, I go to the "boring bars" tab, and there is not anything to check that says round.

If I click the button that says "Setup Tool", I still do not see anything to check.

Sorry don't have V9 and it is always hit or Miss in X2 with it. Seems some tools have it some tools don't. I 99% of the time never turn no the tool body, just the insert. It it is going to be something close I turn on the body, but pay attention to the back of the tool and not anything else. Lathe is has got needed attention for a long time awaiting a possible, maybe someday, in our lifetime release of a new lathe product. So sorry, but unless you make a custom tool you a probably going to have to deal with it. Maybe someone else can be of more help.

Even if you do make a custom tool the boring bars are still flat, at least the way we do it. I always turn 'stop on collision' off when verifying because the back of the flat boring bar crashes all of the time

ok then, it sounds like it is MCAM, not me. Have been using it this way for years but thought I would finally ask someone else about it.

what he said. false collisions are always showing up with boring bars because of the flatness. in my tool definition i'll state min hole size with particular bar/insert combo and just watch what size hole i'm boring. oh and watch out for the huge defaults of the lead out moves.
