pattern position

When using file merge, I cannot get it to place my part on the position I select. File->File merge/pattern, then I select the file and a little hint box pops up and says "select new location, edit options to Scale, Rotate, or Mirror, use current attributes/ CPlane, or Apply to accept" so I click the select button and select a point and it brings in the new part but not on the location that I just specified. Where have I gone wrong?

It uses the original part origin as the location

when cooordinates are given - open the pattern file by itself and look at the origin - when

a location is given when bringing in a pattern the part origin goes to that location so the

part may not be where you want it

You can place the geometry anyplace you like but

when you give coordinates the pattern part

is located so that original part origon

is at the new coordinates - when you

create the pattern originally make sure the

origin is at the point you want to use for the insertion location ie: if you have arcs that

you need to locate at centers make sure they

are originally created with the centers at 0

Spec, I don't know if you know this or not, but when the merge ribbon bar is up, you can hit to activate up the position ribbon bar and key in the location you want the merged part to be located at.

The keyed location will be where the merged part's 0,0,0 will be located to.

I hope this makes sense...

I dunno then... I do it all the time, and it comes in good.

Maybe try making a cube, with a known corner at 0,0,0.

Then start a new blank file. leave WCS and views as is. Merge cube, elect X.5Y.5Z.5 and see the results.

The original corner should position at X.5Y.5Z.5

If not, then.... headscratch.gif
