HAAS EC-400 and Hanita Varimills.

We're running heat treated stainless steel and we've ordered some 1/2" 4 Flute Hanita Varimills with a LOC of 1". We're using a HMC HAAS EC-400 to run this part.

I've looked at the chart they have provided and would like to do a series of tests of the best feeds and speeds.

So far I've got the spindle at 1600 RPM and feedrate at 7.5 IPM.

I'm going to try to crank it up to atleast 3000 RPM and 21 IPM.

Forgot to mention I'm slot cutting stepping down about .250

Any recommendations?

Thanks everyone.

dont know your ss type or heat treat spec etc but think you are on the right track. 3000 maybe a little hot on the rpm? dont let that coolant drop off or game over.

MASK .

I RUN MY VARIMILLS ON TREATED STAINLESSES with

feeds and speads close to the chart on every my machine including 2 Haases with 5axes (trunion) .

The tool life is good .

I would not raise rpm .I would raise feeds

For varimill 12mm dia I would go 1200 rpm 300 -350

mm/min or if the setup rigid and stainless

treated to the condition were it is yet "easy cutting " 1600 rpm and 400-450 mm/min feed .

With 3000 rpm you `ll ruin your tool in couple of minutes .

Best regards
