I'am trying to decide if I should spend 6 thousands on look ahead. I think I have 40 blocks of look ahead standard and adding would get me 180. I've got a job that has 250 hrs. of surfacing. I've programed F70 but never gets over F55 and averages about F30.

How much faster would my machine cut with the added look ahead?

What control? What other options designed to work with look ahead are being considered?

 

Divorce is expensive because its worth it and the same goes for machine tool options, but you need to choose the right combinations. Look ahead alone is not the cure all answer for higher feedrates while surfacing.

I was wrong theres 15 block look ahead standard and 40 is the upgrade for $4,800.

You WANT the additional blokc look-ahead. The performance gain you see can be staggering. Do a search in here, because I did some tests with the various options (std no look ahead, look ahead, AI-NANO, filtering, no filtering etc...) It is well worth the investment. TRUST ME!

 

Get the MAX look ahead you can afford. You'll make that money up in cycle time improvement in no time...

I have the standard G08 P1 look ahead, and it really really stinks! It's a major limitation of the machine, even for conventional milling. Id give the AI nano a shot, it would significantly reduce material removal times.
