I can't wait to see one of these up close : D http://www.micromanufacturing.com/content/lumex-avance-25-machine-combines-additive-subtractive-processes

Care to share how you figured this out?

Did you try what George suggested? I've always ran with a custom toolbar state and all of my windows have always opened where I last used them.

Taking the Heat off Live Tooling
Dave Ball replied to Dave Ball's topic in Machining, Tools, Cutting & Probing
We design and build them as the orders come in and around here the Nakamura isn't as popular ( M**** national headquarters is local) I keep telling them to work deals with machine distributors to get design data in exchange for a free demo of said tool- 2 replies

This is an article about some of the things I make. Those of you that use live tooling for extended periods or at high RPM will find this very interesting. http://www.pddnet.com/articles/2012/11/taking-heat-live-tooling-longer-life-high-cycle-operations

Is anyone here currently using the Mazatrol post from Camaix? Do you like it? How reliable is it? Do you need to do a lot of hand editing at the control? Pros/Cons?

Cylindrical Grinder Recommendation
Dave Ball replied to Dave Ball's topic in Machining, Tools, Cutting & Probing
Guess I should have added CNC -
I'm soliticing recommendations for a cyclindrical grinder, what would you recommend for grinding shafts with 3 or 4 diameters no larger than 1" x 6" long.

Solidworks with DezignWorks plugin and a Faro arm would be my prefered method.

Dowel Hole Location Tolerance

A group decision was made to go with .001 true position. -
Dowel Hole Location Tolerance
Dave Ball replied to Dave Ball's topic in Machining, Tools, Cutting & Probing
Positional tolerance isnt critical as they just locate the jaws, however the axis between the two holes must be perpendicular to the vise length. I guess a simpler way of asking this would be What should the tolerance be between two dowel holes used for alingment? How far "out" of perfect location will allow a slip fit? -
Just looking for input, this is part of a new line of hydraulic workholding for us. In the picture the center jaw is secured by SHCS and located by two .5005/.5009 dowel holes. What do you think the true position between the two locations "NEEDS" to be?

Where to look at parameters #5131 & 5132
Dave Ball replied to Camgal_59's topic in Machining, Tools, Cutting & Probing
Look at page 222, here is what I have hope it helps -
OK so I tried putting the G17 on its own line per the suggestion from Mazak and it fixed the problem, I havent tried the G17 on the G43 line but it appears that if the XYZB locations are called out on the same line as the G17 things work correctly but if only the B is set on that line and then XYZ on a later line its gets goofy. So it looks as if you were correct Griveous74, Thanks a ton!

ATI FIRE PRO V7900 Graphics card.
Dave Ball replied to Ron Branch @ 5th Axis's topic in Industrial Forum
I have the v5900 here at the office and I hate it, I have tried many different setting and drivers but this thing is still horible in verify. I have the Quadro FX3800 at home and it is flawless. -
Strange, but hey I'll give it a shot
-
G17 is a modal command and has been set twice in the preceeding code and our parameters are set to use Mazatrol tool data so the G43 Hxx is just for compatibility with other controls. Thanks for the effort though
-
When posting the program with "R" values it runs fine, the B axis does not move, but I'm not a big fan of the "R" values, I have been burnt a few times. Sent all the machine & user parameters to Mazak and they are doing a comparision to the "as shipped" parameters.
-
Extremely bizarre, thats almost exactly what the applications manager at Mazak said, they are looking into it. Good thing for me they are right down the road I'm thinking it's a parameter type issue because the code looks good.
-
I haven't actually cut anything at this point, just testing code. The B axis moves about 10 deg when it encounters G2/G3 so instead of a +Y axis move followed by a 180 deg arc leading to a -Y axis move, I get +Y move then the B axis and X move then the -Y move. I will try locking the B axis.
-
I'm just beggining to switch this shop over to EIA from Mazatrol and when testing a program in a Mazak HCN6000, G2/G3 lines cause the B axis to do a little dance only to reposition where it started, one of the strangest things I've ever seen. Even tried forcing the X & Y but it didnt help. Anyone with a Mazak care to chime in as what the problem may be? The angle is set with a parameter. With that being said you MAY be able to change that parameter on the fly or it may require a shut down of the machine to become effective. If a shut down is not required adding the logic to your post to write rewrite that paramete would be fairly simple.

Which probe model? Not all probes will run the 9823 (3 point bore/boss) cycle correctly, You must have a strain gage probe and you must have ran the 9804 (REN CAL VEC STYLUS RAD) calibration program.
