Rotary milling a barrel cam

Hi folks,

I am trying to program a barrel cam that I've downloaded to the FTP site, into the MC9 directory. It's called Barrelcam. The backplot looks pretty good, but when I post it the file starts at A180.456 and rotates to A540.456. Can anybody tell me how to set A to start at zero? The feedrates change every line, which I would rather not have. Also if somebody with more experience can take a look at this file and recommend a better way to do it I will be very appreciative. I'm using Mastercam V9 with the SP1 patch, and the MPMaster post that has been modified for a Mori MV-40, Fanuc MFM7 control.

Thanks in advance for any replies,

Smit

Go to the side view, Side CPlane and rotate your part -180.2695. and this is what your first couple of lines will look like

N2 T1 M06 (1/2" 2 FLUTE END MILL)

N3 G00 G90 G54 X-2.1275 Y0. A0. S3056 M03

N4 G43 H1 Z3.623 M08

That what you're looking for?

FYI, I just arbitrarily picked -180 at first to see what I'de get then I started getting closer and closer and finally arrived at that number. So now then trick would be to find out why that number forces out A0. at the beginning. Perhaps you could find out for us??? biggrin.gifbiggrin.gif

Hope that helps,

Thanks for the input. MD, I did get the post you sent. Thanks very much. But it posted starting at A180.27 also. I've got a few jobs I need to get out, and then I'll start experimenting with the barrel cam. The jobs I'm working on now are also rotary, mostly positioning. One pocket to cut out that will need to be rotary feed. Right now I do most of my rotary programs by rotating the geometry to top position and manually editing the programs to move the rotary where it needs to be. I know Mastercam is capable of doing most of the work without rotating the geometry but I'm not confident of the results. A short class that focuses on rotary use would sure be invaluable. cheers.gif
