Okuma Multus

Does anyone have a Multus with a 10000rpm capto spindle & 290 psi coolant?

No, but I was just in a meeting and there was talk about getting one like that. Looked like a very nice machine

Yes, we have a Multus B400W, with the 10000rpm C6 spindle (standard I think), and the high pressure coolant option.

When you run it at 9k to 10k with the through spindle coolant on for an extended period of time, have you had coolant come out the back of the spindle?

Seriously, I haven't seen that, although we dont run ours at 9-10k for prolonged periods.

 

Greg should be able to chime in here, as he knows quite a bit about these.

I used to get this problem with an Okuma mill. The issue there was that I wasn't stopping the spindle and using the spindle airblow to clean out the extra coolant before a toolchange or at the end of a cycle. If you don't clean out the extra coolant it causes the rotary seal on the spindle to leak temporarily.

Matt_S, I asked the Okuma tech a few months ago if the airblast needed to be more psi or a few seconds longer, and he said that it was perfect.

A fellow from Okuma was here yesterday, and can get it to leak within a minute of running by the order he turns the coolant on and off.

I wouldn't have it leak till it had been running a while, but I wasn't tring to get it to either.
