Strange 9.1 problem

On the new job and they set me up with an office machine with 9.1 on it. they have maintenance but no body else will use x (yet, im working on that one).

any way on several ocasions i have had geometry eroneously rotate to od angles in 3d space. it seems to be limited to arcs and circle geo. some is associated with tool path and the path looks correct to the part but not to the geo that has moved?? im scratcing me head on this one as i have never seen it happen befor.

oh the tip off that this has happened is i pick view top view and it takes me to view common to the rotated geo (usually almost iso view).

any ideas? or even some on with an account of this so i dont feel like i am going nuts.

any solutions that will allow me to still use it?

you can safely use a SpaceBall with V9, you just have to be careful.

In V9 you MUST do a mouse left click in the graphics area to disengage the SpaceBall.

Once you develope the habit, its no big deal.

If your SpaceBall is still active and you use Mastercam's Dynamic rotate, your files wireframe may explode.

Even "ALT F1" "F2" can explode your model if the SapceBall is engaged.

You might try installing the latest greatest

drivers for your Spaceball.. they may help, but I doubt it.

V9 is one release away from being unsupported and I doubt 3DC is spending any time making their drivers compatible with an obsolete product.

As far as I know, there is no way to make it work with V9. I have had the weirdest things happen by leaving that thing hooked up with V9. I never need it in 9 anyway because my left hand is keying away being much more productive than in X. My opinion anyway. BUT X(2) does have some sexy features just really miss those hot keys.

This thread got me thinking about hot keys

and made me realize something.

Some of the old V9 hot keys are gone and some are still working in X3.

Many don't work as well as they should.

For expample

Open the arc command and key in a radius/diam value.. then hit "O" for origin.. the O over writes you radius value.... making a hot key

uselss for this application..

M for midpoint and C for center of arc work pretty well most of the time..

X has got hundreds of hot keys most people know nothing about.

Go the Config/Setting/Screen and turn on

"Use Learning Mode Prompts"

Almost every CAD function in X has hot keys and

the learning prompts will tell you what they are

if you hover over the functions ico.

Anytime you hover over an Icon and the popup

description has an underlined character, that character is a hot key when that function is active.

For example..

With Line/Endpoints active you can switch between

Horitzontal and Vertical with V and H.

A will kick you into the angle input box, L will kick into Length.

The V and H key are also switches.

If Line horizontal is active, hitting H will

turn horizontal off.

With Drafting active, I use T H N and J alot

my favortite is Trimming

1,2 3 and D will swtich you between

Trim Single, Trim 2 Trim 3 and divide.

T and B will switch you bewteen Trim and Break..

Every CAD function Mastercam has unique hot keys.

No one could ever learn all of them, but the ones

I've picked up are very useful.

I have been using the space ball before "X" and I do not remember any blowups or issue except was not as user friendly But not working with it not an issue. I still pull V9 up for helping users and use my spaceball just have to remember to do what gcode said about clicking the mouse.I would still give it a try and get the latest drivers.
