Thread Milling

How would you thread mill a 5 axis part can you use the thread milling cycle? Right now I use 5 axis drill to drill and tap 5 axis parts but I do not see an option for thread milling.

 

I can't seem to get mastercam to output the correct code to thread mill even on the side of a part or to do any operations other than 5 axis toolpath. I don't understand what I am doing wrong when I set planes up. I have read the help files and must still be missing something.

Rotate the WCS/ TC plane and use the regular thread mill toolpath.

In my experience, you have to set your T/C planes up normal to the vector of the hole then use the threadmill toolpath and select the linearize helix option so it is not trying to output a circle statement.

Is that what the "Hole Axis" is good for in Verisurf??

Murray, yes you can create a normal vector using the geometry that the holeaxis outputs. use the hole axis to create the geoemtry on the hole(surface). then select planes on the bottom of the screen and pick planes by normal. pick the line pointing down the center of the hole, set +Z up and +X to the right and things should work out for you, +1 to MLS on the threadmill params.
