planes by geometry

i have two perpendicular intersecting lines out of whack with the rest of the orthogonal world that i want to use as to set up a new plane. when i chose 'planes by geometry' and select my first line, i get the message 'selected entity is not flat.'

hmmmmmm . . . why?

(A) are lines not the right geometry?

(B) when is a line not flat?

thanks

k

original file is from rhino where its first object properties are labeled 'valid curve.' in rhino the nomenclature runs similar to a tiered species call-out:

geometry

valid curve

line

(numerical data)

vs

geometry

valid curve

arc

(numerical data)

so you can see where an arc and a curve are at the beginning in the same set (at least in nomenclature). the line data is flat for whatever that is worth. think this is the problem?
