cuting Granit on a cnc

+1000 for diamond PCD tooling - expensive though

Brazed PCD or black diamond should work fine.

Look into subbing out the profiling and large thru-holes to someone with a waterjet.

You will find that tools will last longer with higher chiploads (less rubbing) just like any abrasive material.

My main concern would be keeping the granite out of the coolant tank though.

Jay

I have worked with many machine that cut granite. Many of my customers use tools from a company called ADI

http://www.aditools.com/prod/Pietra/Pietra...-man_frm_en.htm

I just finished installing a machine in Mass.

Typically the first cut is with a tool called a finger bit, around 12IPM and 5,000 rpm. Lots of water most of these machines have through the tool coolant, and a halo ring around the spindle nose. There is no abrasive in the water just clean water.

regards

George

(It had to be done with diamond tipped tools) This what I thought. need to do some engraving of letters.

Thanks all for the thoughts going to give it a try.

George thanks for the Link will be needed.
