17-4 at 45 rockwell

I am cutting a .068 wide slot in 17-4 @ 45rockwell.

Right now I am useing a harvey tool .055 dia stub flute/extended reach (.285) 3ipm 6500rpm .015 doc. Anyone have any tool recommondations for tools that I could run faster?

What's overall depth of the slot? Suggest using a shorter endmill for half the depth and the long one for the lower half at less feed rate.

I have some of their jabro endmills on the way to test.

they are awesom endmills, and the tech data for speeds and feeds is generally right there. I have an excel format seco speed and feed calc, that you enter the book numbers for. I can not find it at the moment but will post it when I do.

Jabro’s are great but if your not going that deep don't think you need to pony up that kind of money. We cut H.T. 17-4 all the time and Niagara, Harvey Tool and YG-1 work great for a lot less money. Harvey also has 5fl .062 Dia, Endmills that work great for that material the more flutes the better.

How fast could I run the harvey 5 flute do you think Ted?

I'm running the 1.5mm Jabro at 10,000rpm, 15ipm, .015 depth of cut (just got them a few hours ago!)

how fast can you go I would think that 300sfm and .0002 chip would wok just fine.

right now I'm running mine at 245sfm and .0002 chip because I only have 15k.
