A Google on ->

* Windows Installer "a network error occurred while attempting to read from the file" *

Brings up many hits which (mostly all) point to this solution...

This site had the clearest instructions on obtaining and using the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility

If you want to info directly from Microsoft ->

Windows Installer CleanUp Utility

*** Be very careful using the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility ***

Just make sure that the only entry you tell it to remove is this one ->

(If there are multiple identical entries select them all).

WindowsInstallerCleanUpTool.jpg

After running the utility, go to the CHook folder of your Mastercam (X4-MU1) and (if they exist) delete these files ->

C:McamX4-MU1chooksArc MultiEdit.pdf

C:McamX4-MU1chooksArc MultiEdit.dll

C:McamX4-MU1chooksArc MultiEdit.ft

Before re-running the Arc MultiEdit.exe installer package.

I would suggest checking the version of Windows Installer on your system.

There are a couple ways to do that...

From a CMD window prompt, type in this command -> msiexec.exe /?

-or-

Check the Version info on this file -> C:WINDOWSsystem32msi.dll

by navigating to the file, highlite it and then right-click on it and select the Version tab and check the 'File Version' info.

? Is this at least v3.1 (unfortunately there are three different versions of Windows Installer 3.1 !?!

Windows Installer 3.1 Version Confusion

? Is the version of Windows Installer on your Laptop "older" than what is on your Desktop system?

BTW...

The latest released version of Windows Installer from Microsoft is -> Windows Installer 4.5 Redistributable

Finally, please let me know the outcome.
